Reliance Mobile has introduced the call manager service on its GSM network on supporting handsets. Offered through a server-less client protocol, the Call Manager service allows customers to respond to incoming calls with pre-recorded voice messages. The Call Manager also features SMS based chatting and voice mail on mobile. It allows one to respond to answer phone calls without any need to talk or type, using an intuitive user interface.

The Voice Message feature enables caller to leave a message once a call is left unanswered. The recorded messages are deposited in the mobile phone’s Inbox folder, and can be played, forwarded, replied to or removed. The Voice Message feature can be activated either manually by selecting it from the ringing menu. It allows users to customise its greeting message or the duration after which the voicemail automatically answers a call through the application’s settings.

Sometimes, when dialling a number, the call may ring without an answer. In such cases where the called party might not notice the call, or may not be able to answer at the moment, the application provides options like Call another number. This will offer you to dial the other available numbers of the same contact. This way, if someone is not available at work, you can try reaching them at home with a click. It also enables the caller to start chatting. The Chatting option allows user to start an instant messaging UI-like chat session and communicate using text messaging.

Reliance Mobile is offering the Call Manager service through a subscription module. It will not charge the user for downloading the application. Moreover, post the installation of the service, the customers can avail a free seven-day offer. The subscription for the service will be activated post the expiry of this free-trial period.

Reliance Mobile will charge Rs 15 per month as subscription fee for this service.

Gmail is wonderful, free, and ubiquitous. Thanks to its support for the POP3 and IMAP protocols, you can access your Gmail inbox via Outlook, Thunderbird, or other e-mail programs in addition to using the standard Web method. Alternatively you can read your Gmail messages on your cell phone through your phone’s browser by navigating to Gmail.

Some phones (including my Motorola Razr V3 with T-Mobile service) won’t display standard Web sites, unfortunately, though they will display sites designed to support the Wireless Applications Protocol (WAP) using the Wireless Markup Language (WML). Google’s WAP-compatible Gmail site (don’t leave off the ‘http://’ part—unlike the browser on your PC, your phone’s browser may not add that prefix automatically).

Gmail’s mobile site is perfectly functional, but the company offers something even better for Java-compatible phones. The Gmail Java app promises faster performance than the Web interface, and it supports attachments better. To try it, visit http://gmail.com/app and click the big blue Get Started Now button. After you enter your mobile phone number and click the Send Now button, Gmail will send you a text message with instructions on how to download the application.

If neither the WAP page nor the Java applet work on your phone, you may be able to see your Gmail on your phone by configuring your cell phone carrier’s e-mail system to download messages from Gmail via POP3 or IMAP.

In present times, human awareness has advanced to the digital world opening up yet another dimension for communication. With the advent of the mobile phone, it has become yet another tool for communication through the digital medium. In the modern cyber age, it is not essential for people to be physically present in front of each other to socialize. So, a physically visible audience is not the priority, since the cyber world allows people to communicate and socialize digitally with each other.

Social Networking has revolutionized the way people socialize with each other. Social networks have sprung up all over the internet so that people with common interests can group together and share their views. In this manner, social networks provide a more impersonal way to socialize with people whom we may be able to communicate with instantly through digital networks, but may still find it difficult to meet personally once in a lifetime.

Mobile phones have given a new definition to social networking in the form of mobile social networking. An extension to accessing the cyber world through computers, the availability of GPRS, WAP, and hopefully 3G, the mobile phone has become an apt tool for avid social net workers around the world. Computers gave folks the world over the ability to define their social lifestyle through a digital medium, but mobile phones have driven this concept further and have provided a new dimension to the social lifestyles of social net workers.

Yet another development on this front is that mobile companies are tying up with a variety of social networking sites so that they can be accessed through mobile phones. So, now it could be possible to access social networking sites like Facebook or twitter through these new age devices so that you can stay in touch with your friends and online acquaintances continuously. These sites are also specially designed so that they can fit your mobile phone’s relatively small screen.

Social networking has also provided a platform for exchanging ideas without restriction on a global basis without fear of suppression or prejudice. Porting this characteristic to your mobile phone makes it easier and more convenient for people to be avid social net workers given the already existing possibilities through personal computers. With the unlocking of the vast potential of social networking through mobile phones, you can access various sites like Fring, Gtalk, Nimbuzz, Skype, Yahoo! and others to experience this newfound charm of social networking.

At the moment, one can be only positive about what the future holds for us, but social networking through mobile phones will also see its heyday in the days to come.
