India Will Shift To 11-Digit Mobile Numbers Soon!

Come January and all mobile users in the country may have 11-digit mobile numbers instead of their 10-digit numbers currently. The subscribers will have to prefix 9 to the existing 10-digit number. The proposed migration is likely to be implemented from 1 January 2010. India is adding an average of 15 million new cellular customers every month. A new numbering plan was required to accomodate the increasing number of subscribers, as reported by Business Standard.
